(IT Jungle) IBM recently unveiled its zSeries 890 box, which--in addition to delivering more power for less money per unit of power--also includes a dedicated processor that does nothing but run Java code. The question now is: When will the iSeries get Java engines? READ MORE >

(IT Jungle) The not-for-profit UCCnet GLOBALregistry organization announced that 566 companies signed up for UCCnet's item product data synchronization service during the first three months of 2004, trouncing the 119 new companies that signed up during the first three months of 2003, and bringing the total number of subscribers to more than 3,000. (eWeek) BMC struck a deal with Systinet this week, where BMC has delivered its first product using Systinet's Web Applications and Services Platform. BMC also said that it's working on a second product that uses Systinet's technology. READ MORE >

(IT Jungle) IBM released WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation (WBISF) version 5.1, the follow-on product to WebSphere Application Server V5.1. WBISF 5.1 allows companies to implement and deliver "services-oriented" applications assembled in Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) using WebSphere Studio Application Developer (AD) Integration Edition V5.1, which was also announced and shipped last week. (IT Jungle) Kronos released iSeries Central 5, the latest version of its time and labor management software for OS/400. The new version contains several new features--such as a new HTML interface, navigation "genies," and a new graphical scheduling system--that are the result of requests made by a new iSeries Central customer advisory board that was formed earlier this year. (IT Jungle) PerformanceIT recently announced ProIT Wireless Interface, a new component for its ProIT systems management suite. The new interface allows OS/400 shops to wirelessly monitor their servers, applications, and networks through ProIT. READ MORE >

(IT Jungle) Ricoh and IBM have teamed up to provide AS/400 and iSeries users with greater control over their Ricoh printers and multi-function printers (MFPs). Ricoh last month announced that, as the result of a new Workstation Customization Object (WCO) for Ricoh printers available with OS/400, users are now able to customize their print jobs to fit their needs.
