Top IBM i Stories from Around the Web

(IT Jungle) When Bernie Madoff's massive Ponzi scheme collapsed in 2008, erasing $65 billion in supposed wealth, the midrange community was somewhat surprised to learn that an AS/400 was at the heart of the operation. Soon thereafter, FBI agents called Rochester, Minnesota, with a request for IBM: Give us an expert witness who can untangle the ancient RPG II code and explain how it works to a jury. That job eventually fell to longtime IBMer Rich Diedrich. READ MORE >

The chances are slim that the latter will ever be ported to IBM i, although the former could get IBM i hooks. READ MORE >

(IT Jungle) Rational Developer for i (RDi) now supports the Mac OS client, along with Windows and Linux machines. This news comes with the V9.5.1 update to RDi. For the time being, the compatibility only includes Mac OS X 10.11 and RDi functions, such as program verifiers and syntax checkers, are unavailable, but if Mac users make some noise, the holes will be filled in. (InformationWeek) "The way I see it, a manager is someone who is transactional, while a leader is someone who is transformational. Achieving true leadership in IT is a particularly tricky proposition. It's about balancing transformational and transactional roles, which do not naturally dovetail," says Elliot Luber. "Often true leadership gets lost in the transactional business of writing code, managing infrastructure, and meeting deadlines." READ MORE >
