Varsity Logistics and Island Pacific Team Up in an i Formation

Varsity Logistics and Island Pacific, two enterprise software vendors from California that have made their living in the IBM System i ecosystem, established a new partnership recently that will see each company leveraging the i-based strengths--as well as the customer lists--of the other.
The newly announced partnership between Varsity Logistics, a developer of i OS-based transportation management software based in South San Francisco, and Island Pacific, a developer of i OS-based retail and warehouse management software based in Irvine, is all about the "i."
As the companies note, both vendors have a long history of providing System i-based enterprise software systems to hundreds of companies. Retailers such as Brookstone, Dollar General, Urban Outfitters, and Vans rely on the Island Pacific Merchandising Suite (IPMS) to manage store operations, while Varsity's ShipSoft suite is responsible for the shipping activities of a number of System i shops, including Chicago Faucets, Kawasaki Motor Sports U.S.A., Roland, and Wigwam.
Island Pacific, which was acquired two years ago by the Australian company 3Q Holdings Limited, is committed to expanding its IBM i offerings, and that's where the Varsity partnership comes in, according to Richard Gaetano, Island Pacific's COO for the Americas.
"With Varsity, our customers now have the option of leveraging their IBM i investment to automate and manage their parcel and freight shipments," Gaetano says in a press release. "Varsity's best-of-breed shipping software is ideal for companies who want the freedom to ship through multiple carriers."
Meanwhile, Varsity president Chris Anderson sounds equally enthusiastic about the i-based synergies that the new partnership entails. "Island Pacific shares our commitment to the IBM i system and dedication to exceptional customer service," Anderson says. "We're pleased to be able to add our shipping functionality to Island Pacific's comprehensive retail solution to help retailers improve shipping efficiencies, increase customer satisfaction, and reduce their shipping expense."
