New 10ZiG Ethernet Terminal Caters to System i Needs

Published: January 12, 2010

by Alex Woodie

The new TBT-1000 terminal unveiled by 10ZiG Technology last week is an ideal replacement for green-screen terminals, and will be marketed heavily toward the vendor's System i customer base, 10ZiG says.

The TBT-1000 features a 1 GHz processor, uses the Linux operating system, and supports touch screen displays and a range of legacy ports for connecting to peripherals, says 10ZiG. The device, which 10ZiG has listed at $199, is a bare-bones Ethernet terminal out-of-the-box. A mouse isn't even required.

But the TBT-1000 can be upgraded with things like support for VMware View 4 and support for PCoIP, which future-proofs the device and enables it to play a role in a customer's future virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), the vendor says.

"The TBT-1000 is an Ethernet terminal with a future," says Martin Pladgeman, president of 10ZiG Technology. "It's a dumb terminal today and a Windows Terminal tomorrow."

Like all of 10ZiG's Linux-based thin clients, the TBT-1000 features a "fast boot" feature that cuts the boot up time in half. Getting up and running with 5250 emulation (included) can be accomplished with just three configuration entries, the vendor says.

"We're excited to have this new offering for our System i customers because it offers a faster, more flexible alternative to the other Ethernet terminals on the market at a very attractive price," Pladgeman says.
