CMS Bites the Bullet and Overhauls ERP Suite
by Alex Woodie

Screenscrapers didn't do it. WebFacing couldn't take them there. If there was an easy way to give its RPG-based ERP suite a fully functional GUI that competed head-to-head with Windows-based ERP vendors, CMS Manufacturing Systems would have found it. Absent a quick-fix converter, the Markham, Ontario, software vendor bit the bullet and this week announced its intention to rewrite more than 10 million lines of RPG IV code to separate core business logic from presentation logic. Celcorp Offers Upgrades, Discounts on 5250 Emulator for Macintosh
by Alex Woodie

As Apple celebrated the 20th anniversary of its venerable Macintosh computer last week, software developer Celcorp announced it would offer discounts of up to 20 percent on its line of terminal emulation software, which lets Macintosh users access OS/400 and mainframe servers. While Macintosh maintains a paltry minority on the world's desktop scene, the legion of Mac users is actually growing, and some companies are adopting it anew. READ MORE >

Ultra Density Optical One Step Closer to Reality on iSeries
by Alex Woodie

Plasmon last week announced general availability of its new line of iSeries-compatible optical libraries, which sets the stage for bringing ultra density optical (UDO) technology to the platform later this year. Plasmon's 5.25-inch G-Series optical libraries currently feature magneto optical drives, but with the next release of OS/400, these G-Series libraries will also support new UDO drives, which promise higher capacities and lower costs for companies trying to meet strict "write once" archiving requirements. Automated Report Distribution
Delivering what you want, when you want it.

"Timely financial reporting is crucial to a manager… IBM's iSeries runs the reports on the JDE Financial Application, but had no efficient way of electronically distributing individual reports to individual people. The RJS products solved that problem by splitting report spool files and emailing each person the needed report."

Correction

The article "UCCnet Compliance Ensures Steady Supply of Booda Bones At Wal-Mart" has been changed to correct errors since it was originally published. The story originally stated that only software vendor with a UCCnet solution that runs completely on the OS/400 platform is LANSA. In fact, many vendors offer pure OS/400 UCCnet solutions, but LANSA is the only vendor to sell an entirely OS/400-based solution that is a "full UCCnet solution" according to the UCCnet Product Directory.
The story also characterized Aspen Pet as "dumping" one set of products, which was an unintentional poor word choice to describe what happened. That sentence now reads: "This led Aspen Pet to consolidate its connectivity products on the IPNet-Inovis connectivity stack, an action Sharpe says is in line with its "one throat to choke" philosophy in dealing with software vendors.
