SafeData Signs Six New Hosted HA Deals

Published: January 15, 2008

by Alex Woodie

SafeData signed up six companies in December to use its hosted i5/OS high availability (HA) service, the company announced yesterday. SafeData says the new deals indicate the need for managed i5/OS HA is quite high at the moment, especially considering that the bulk of the HA software is controlled by a single company.

Since SafeData launched its hosted HA and DR service in 2005, the company has been touting the benefits customers receive by offloading their DR and HA setups to the Warwick, Rhode Island, company.

Usually the customer accolades would arrive one by one. But yesterday, SafeData revealed no fewer than six new customers signed up last month, including the Carlisle Companies of Charlotte, North Carolina, H&M International Transportation of Jersey City, New Jersey, Coilplus of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Centra State Healthcare System of Freehold, New Jersey, Ocean State Jobbers of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and Kwik Trip of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

The big numbers indicate that data protection and high availability continue to be growing concerns of organizations of all shapes and sizes, says Peter Briggs, president of SafeData.

"Although iSeries hardware and replication software have improved greatly, managing two systems and maintaining a stable environment can stretch the IT resources of small and mid-sized businesses very thin," he says. "With the significant confusion in the marketplace that all high availability vendors are now owned by the same equity firm, SafeData can eliminate these uncertainties and take ownership of an organization's solution through our subscription-based approach."
