  • ARCAD Introduces Free Data Area Editor for RDp

    January 15, 2013 Alex Woodie

ARCAD Software recently rolled out a new piece of freeware that might interest RPG programmers who use Rational Development for Power Systems (RDp). The new product, called Data Area Editor, provides a way for RDp users to edit data area objects within the Eclipse environment.

According to ARCAD, the new Data Area Editor allows programmers to edit data area objects that belong to an IBM i project, or directly from the Remote Systems Explorer (RSE). The software supports the editing of character, decimal, and logical data area objects, and supports insert mode, fixed-size line editing, and search and replace functions. It supports RDp version 8.5 and higher.

ARCAD CEO Philippe Magne says Data Area Editor addresses a shortcoming in the development tools. “There’s absolutely nothing to edit the content of a data area, neither within RDP nor in the native side,” Magne says via email. “You can, from the 5250 interface, view the content (DTADTAARA) and change it (CHGDTAARA). So, for people that are using such kind of object, it’s pretty useful.”

Data Area Editor is one of several pieces of freeware from ARCAD. Others include the 5250 emulator for RDp, for RDi version 7.5, and for WDSc versions 6 and 7, and the Plug-In for 5250 Unit Test.

For more information or to download the new tool, see the company’s website at www.arcadsoftware.com.
