Cybele Software Unveils z/Scope Classic Version 6

Published: January 16, 2007

by Alex Woodie

Cybele Software recently unveiled a new release of z/Scope Classic, a Windows-based terminal emulator for accessing OS/400, mainframe, and Unix hosts. With version 6, the product now supports VT100, VT420 (DEC), and SSH emulation.

Cybele Software sells several products for accessing and integrating legacy applications. Its z/Scope product line includes several emulators designed to access certain host types, such as z/Scope Express for 5250. Customers that only need to use the IBM 5250 and 3270 protocols have a solution in the z/Scope Warp product, while z/Scope Classic, with version 6, adds Unix emulation to the mix, as well as an integrated FTP client. Cybele also offers Web-based access to hosts with z/Scope Web-to-Host, while its z/Scope Workbench product (version 6 of which is in beta) adds a source code editor to all the features found in Classic. The company also sells the TN Bridge Integration Pack for exposing business processes as Web services.

In addition to the new support for popular Unix protocols, z/Scope Classic version 6 includes several other new features, including a new look and feel, and new fonts. It also gives users the option to use a tiled view of multi-host or multi-connection sessions, a new Web update feature, and a new start page that lists a user's favorites and includes an RSS feed reader. The new version is available in English, French, German, Swedish, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Cybele Software was founded in 2002 and is based in Wilmington, Delaware. It's the North American affiliate of Team Soft S.R.L., a Buenos Aires, Argentina, software developer that has been in the AS/400 business since 1993.

z/Scope Classic Version 6 is available now. Pricing starts at $60 per seat, or $70 when the FTP option is selected. For more information, see www.cybelesoft.com.
