tekservePOS Launches i OS Software for Retailers at NRF

tekservePOS launched a new suite of i OS-based software last week at the National Retail Federation (NRF) conference and expo in New York City. The new offering, called tekRETAIL Suite, provides a full-function point of sale (POS) platform for stores, at a fraction of the cost of enterprise POS vendors, the company claims.

tekRETAIL Suite has two components: the POS software, called tekRETAIL Store, and tekRETAIL Central Office. tekRETAIL Store runs on Windows, while tekRETAIL Central Office runs on the IBM i OS and IBM Power Systems (formerly i5 and AS/400) servers.

The POS component provides all the basic functionality one would expect from a retail checkout system, including sales and cash management; connections to scanners and payment systems; exchange and warranty; and special order and up-sell functionality, among other features.

The tekRETAIL Central Office component is designed to connect to the POS system, and provides more advanced functionality in support of the retail environment, including sales audit, loss prevention, item maintenance, and pricing functionality, in addition to management of customer loyalty programs and coupons.

John Pruban, president of Illinois-based tekservePOS, says there is a huge amount of dissatisfaction among customers of major enterprise POS providers.

"While there are core challenges with product roadmaps, integration, and quality, the biggest concern is the ability to respond to customer needs in a timely, flexible, and customized manner," Pruban says. "tekRETAIL Suite offers retailers just as powerful platforms as the other POS Software enterprise vendors, but at a more affordable price."
