Notes and Exchange Co-Exist Peacefully, Thanks to Quest

Companies can use both Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange at the same time when they install Coexistence Manager for Notes, a new product unveiled by Quest Software last week. The software allows companies to use the e-mail and calendaring functions of both products indefinitely.

Quest, the giant Windows utility developer, released Coexistence Manager for Notes last week primarily to help smooth customer transitions from IBM Lotus Notes/Domino to Microsoft Exchange. The product enables employees to simultaneously use the e-mail, calendars, attachments, and document hyperlink functionality of both messaging systems, and is designed to be used with Quest's Notes Migrator for Exchange.

David Waugh, Quest's vice president of unified communications and collaboration, says the new product delivers a "worry-free" transition for Notes users moving to Exchange. "With the release of Coexistence Manager for Notes, we have solved possibly one of the biggest pains among users of IBM Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange: synchronized calendaring and e-mail support," he says.

Coexistence Manager for Notes also helps preserve Notes workflow by rerouting e-mail-based document hyperlinks to the correct location in the new workflow application, whether it's Notes or Microsoft's SharePoint portal. Last June, Quest augmented its portfolio of migration tools when it launched Notes Migrator for SharePoint, which enables Notes users to take stock of their Domino applications, and migrate pertinent data, including images, file attachments, OLE objects, text, and other components of Notes/Domino applications, into the Microsoft portal environment.

Coexistence Manager for Notes is now available and costs $10 per mailbox. The product can also be obtained along with Notes Migrator for Exchange, where the whole bundle costs $15 per mailbox. For more information, visit www.quest.com.
