Kofax Streamlines Installation, Exception Handling with Capture 9.0

Kofax recently issued a new release of Capture, a suite of software that sits next to high-capacity scanners and automates the process of transforming document scans into digital copies that can be easily indexed and retrieved on a computer. With Capture 9.0, the company has bolstered the capability to remotely install and mange the software on Windows machines and added new batch workflow routines to prevent exceptions from gobbling up users' time and resources.

While Kofax Capture (formerly Ascent Capture) doesn't run on the i/OS server, the software is in widespread use at i/OS shops, where it is commonly connected to i/OS-based content management and accounting systems, including those from IBM, Real Vision Software (RVI), Quadrant Software, and RJS Software Systems, among others.

Customers with remote offices will benefit from the new automated deployment and updating capabilities in Capture version 9. Instead of manually installing or updating the software at each location, this release gives users the capability to accomplish these tasks from a central server. This new remote-site capability also provides licensing benefits when users fail over to a backup system, Kofax says.

Version 9 also brings exception-handling enhancements to the so-called "document batch class" that is at the heart of Capture. With this release, users can modify specific aspects of the document batch class during processing, eliminating the need to make manual changes to documents after the fact, which is expensive and time consuming.

Kofax also gives users the new capability to route specific document types within a document batch to specific operators, which will help to shorten overall processing times and lead to a more efficient system.

Capture version 9 also adds support for Microsoft Windows 7.0, and includes a new Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) that allows users to deploy the software using their standard software management tools.
