Warehouse Design Experts Partner with VAI

Published: February 12, 2008

by Alex Woodie

Companies that rely on i5/OS ERP solutions from VAI will soon have a very different sort of expertise at their service. Yesterday, VAI announced it has partnered with National Storage & Conveyor Systems to help its customers design warehouses to be as efficient as possible.

For years, New York-based VAI has developed an i5/OS-based warehouse management system that automates and helps speed common warehouse tasks, such as picking, packing, shipping, and unloading. By interfacing with the System i server via wireless barcode scanners and keeping track of what's coming and what's going, the WMS system helped warehouse workers get work done faster.

Now, VAI is bringing another aspect of warehouse management into the picture: the physical layout and location of warehouse elements to maximize space efficiency. Through its partnership with National Storage, VAI's WMS customers will get expert advice in the areas of layout design, best practice receiving protocols, cubic feet optimization, efficient picking methods, and material handling recommendations.

"VAI is constantly looking for ways to help our clients improve productivity and efficiency," says Dan Bivona, sales director for VAI. "Professional spatial planning is the perfect compliment to the advanced capabilities of S2K WMS and allows our customers to work with VAI to develop a truly integrated solution."

National Storage offers a range of services and equipment, including; AutoCAD facility layouts and storage planning software; "narrow aisle" systems; parts picking systems; mezzanines; racking systems; automated carousel systems; shelving; automated conveyor systems; and forklift applications, among other offerings.
