Island Pacific supports the OS/400 platform, and is proud of it. In its announcement of a new release of its cross-channel merchandising system, IPMS, last week, the head of the Irvine, California, company made iSeries zealots the world over proud--and brought shame upon those who detract from the name.
"At a time when other retail software providers are abandoning support for the iSeries/AS400 environment, Island Pacific is underscoring its commitment to advancing its applications in this environment for the benefit of current and future customers," said Barry Schechter, CEO of Island Pacific.
So what's so great about IPMS 3.1? Features, baby. With this release, Island Pacific says it has "vastly improved" its prepack functionality, which the company says will especially benefit its customers in the specialty apparel and retail footwear business. IPMS 3.1 also gains new business intelligence functionality via new planning capabilities in The Eye, a Java-based data warehousing application that is separate from IPMS. Lastly, version 3.1 gains foreign language support for the first time, and gives users within the same company the ability to view application screens in their language of choice.
