FormSprint Now Does QR Codes

The capability to generate Quick Response (QR) codes on business correspondence is increasingly becoming a requirement for document management solutions. To that end, Integrated Custom Software (ICS) now supports QR codes in its document management software for IBM i, called FormSprint.

FormSprint is a suite of software that enables IBM i shops to transition away from printing spool files using expensive pre-printed forms, and to dynamically generated documents that can be printed on any standard laser printer or distributed electronically. The modules that compose the suite include a PC-based form design tool, PDF/TIFF converter, email, fax, and signature capture.

Barcodes have been a key component of the ICS solution for years. Now with the capability to generate QR barcodes, ICS is ensuring that FormSprint remains relevant to its IBM i customer base.

The advent of QR code-reading software on smartphones has fueled an explosion in the use of QR codes among consumers. Typically, QR codes are used to transmit Web addresses to consumers, who read the code by simply pointing their smartphones' camera at the square-shaped symbol.

IBM i document management vendors like ICS have been adding QR codes to augment their barcode repertoire, which also typically include UPC, Maxicode, PDF417, USPS Intelligent Mail, etc. Adding QR codes to documents such as invoices or product labels gives the organization another way to communicate with its customers.
