Keane Unites AS/400 and Unix Healthcare Products and Teams

The recent unification of the AS/400 and Unix development teams at Keane's Healthcare Information Systems unit has paid dividends for University Physicians Hospital (UPH) of Arizona, which recently signed a contract extension to move to Keane's unified product.

Keane provides a range of IT products and services to a range of industries, including application development, integration, and outsourcing services to organizations in financial services, energy and utilities, insurance, manufacturing, retail, telecommunications, transportation, and travel and hospitality. But the $1 billion, San Ramon, California, company might be best known for its Healthcare Information Systems division, which develops several shrink-wrapped products, including Keane InSight, an i/OS-based healthcare information system (HIS), used by some of the country's largest hospital groups.

Last April, Keane introduced Optimum, its unified application that provides functionality for the patient care and financial management sides of a hospital. According to Keane, Optimum is the combination of Patcom, its revenue cycle management (RCM) solution and patient management system, and iMed, its suite of clinical applications. Since then, the company has been working with several i/OS-based InSight customers to move to the new Optimum product.

One of the first InSight customer to move to Optimum is UPH, which, as the hospital arm of University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, is Arizona's largest physicians group. According to Mark Wise, UPH's applications manager, the implementation of Optimum will help the hospital group grow.

"With Keane's recent decisions to focus on a single solution and bring the AS/400 and Unix product lines and teams together, we as the client are already starting to benefit from the improvements in their development and support," Wise said in a press release yesterday. "We are excited about the future of Optimum and Keane."

Keane Optimum provides a range of functionality, including health information management, chart management, utilization management, enterprise scheduling, document management, and dashboard capabilities. Keane sells other healthcare information systems, including its NetSolutions offering, which is written in Microsoft .NET technology.
