XAware 5.3 Goes GA, Opens Up to the WSDL

Published: February 24, 2009

by Alex Woodie

Open source integration tool developer XAware yesterday announced the general availability of version 5.3 of its eponymous integration toolset. Better support for Salesforce.com's on-demand CRM software and enhanced support for Web Service Description Language (WSDL) files headline the new offering.

XAware is a Java-based data integration tool suite that allows users to create reusable logic to move data among disparate systems, including the System i. The product, which plugs into the Eclipse development framework, promotes a high-level configuration-based approach to data integration that relies heavily on the reuse of components and the avoidance of low-level programming. It went open source last year, and is also available via a commercial license.

Users of XAware 5.3, will find it easier to create data connections when presented with an external WSDL file. The was a requirement presented to XAware, which had been told that developers should be able to create operational data services when first presented with a WSDL file from an outside trading partner. Since WSDL is based on XML, the thinking went, XAware should be able to extract the needed data from the schema in the WSDL, which is what the company has done with version 5.3.

Another requirement was better support for Salesforce.com, a SaaS application that is the target of frequent requests for better functionality among data integration vendors such as XAware. With version 5.3, the XAware Designer wizard gets additional support for batches and joins, which should help developers to more quickly build services that respond to Salesforce events, the company says.

Version 5.3 also brings new features and fixes in a number of different areas, including new views in the Project Navigator, updated JAR install scripts, and more user-friendly naming conventions with files.

XAware 5.3 is available now for free use under the GPLv2 license, and alternatively via a commercial license. For more information and downloads, visit www.xaware.com.
