Original Formally Launches TestDrive-Assist

Original Software last week formally announced its new product, first revealed in December, that helps companies implement software testing that fits their current development strategies without requiring disruptive wholesale changes.

TestDrive-Assist, as the product formally announced last week is known, is a component of Original's TestDrive suite that's intended to allow customers to ease into automated software testing, as opposed to diving right in, which Original calls its "Crawl, Walk, Run" approach.

In short, TestDrive-Assist enables users to manually test their software and include the results of those tests in Original's test tracking system. Now, audit trails resulting from all testing activities, whether it was generated from manual or automated processes, are bundled together, allowing testers to pinpoint bugs so they can be re-created and fixed.

Previously, incorporating manual test processes into TestDrive was an arduous task, as the software suite was primarily aimed at automated software testing and didn't accommodate manual processes very well. The company still is a firm believer that automated testing is--or should be--the ultimate goal of all software testing projects, with efficiency and speed-to-market being the primary. But it now realizes that, for some shops, making the leap from all-manual testing to all-automated testing was simply asking too much.
