Bytware Delivers GUI for i5/OS Network Security Tool

Published: March 13, 2007

by Alex Woodie

Companies utilizing the latest release of Bytware's i5/OS network security software, StandGuard Network Security version 3.0, now have the option of using a graphical user interface (GUI) with the software, the vendor announced last week.

StandGuard Network Security is an exit-point monitoring tool that complements OS/400 and 5250 security by double-checking iSeries access requests originating from users and other systems coming in over FTP, ODBC, and other network access points that bypass OS/400's olden menu-based security system.

For years, StandGuard Network Security has only been accessible by administrators through a green screen. Now, the Reno, Nevada, company is bolstering the green screen with a new look, which brings a set of new capabilities, including: an event viewer; security data export capabilities; and the capability to search and filter SQL statements, which provides users with a new method for studying security on their system.

Network Security's new GUI also allows users to browse through a tree-like menu to add users, IFS objects, database objects, programs, and commands to existing lists on the system, which should significantly cut the time required to establish and maintain security policies, the company says. The new event viewer gives users the capability to reorder columns, set display colors, leverage advanced search technology, and export events in either CSV or TXT format.

"We are very excited to be launching a graphical user interface for StandGuard Network Security that mirrors all the features accessible through our green-screen interface, as well as expanding further our extensive reporting and exit point security functionality, and multiple system management," says Christine Grant, Bytware's president.
