XAware Delivers New Commercial Version of Data Integration Tool

XAware recently announced it is shipping the commercial version of XAware 5, the most recent release of its eponymous graphical open source data integration suite. The company released the open source version of XAware 5 last fall, when it made the open source plunge. Now that the open source community has had its chance to take a whack at it, XAware is announcing the availability of the commercial version of XAware 5.

XAware is a Java-based data integration tool suite that allows users to create reusable logic to move data among disparate systems. Instead of writing one-off integration points from scratch in Java or another language, XA-Suite users take a configuration-driven approach, highlighted by its use of "executable XML," which improves reproduction and better return on investment, the company says. The suite is composed of the XAware Designer development environment, the XAware Engine, and various adapters (for inputting from data sources) and connectors (for outputting to different formats). The iSeries has been certified as a target and a source since version 4.2, which shipped in September 2006.

Last November the company announced it was adopting the open source business model to further spread the use of its software. Along with that announcement, the company shipped XAware version 5, which brought support for the open source MySQL database, a GPL v2 license, Eclipse integration, a Spring deployment, and other open source enhancements.

After about three months of being poked and prodded by the open source community, XAware last month declared availability of the commercial version of XAware. Users of the commercial version get everything that users of the open source version get, except the GPL license and reliance on the open source community at www.xaware.org for support. Instead, commercial users get support directly from the professionals at XAware.
