Oracle Hooks JDE into Contract Management App

Published: April 6, 2010

by Alex Woodie

Oracle last month announced a new integration between its JD Edwards EnterpriseOne ERP system and Primavera Contract Management. The new integration is designed to help JDE shops in the construction, engineering, and oil and gas industries get a tighter grip on costs and keep jobs on schedule.

Primavera Contract Management is part of an integrated suite of project management products Oracle obtained with its acquisition of Primavera in October 2008. According to Oracle, Primavera Contract Management excels at tracking documents and costs in the construction industry projects. Of particular interest is its capability to keep the different players--including various managers, subcontractors, architects, engineers, suppliers, and owners--connected to the system, and dealing with those inevitable (and dreaded) project orders.

With so many JD Edwards EnterpriseOne customers in the engineering, construction, or oil and gas industries, it was a natural goal for Oracle to integrate EnterpriseOne with Primavera. According to Oracle, customers that use the two products together can expect to achieve several benefits, including: eliminating inconsistencies in project-related reporting; eliminating redundant data entry; better alignment between organizational strategy and project execution; clearer oversight of project costs and financial management; a greater degree of governance over project-related decisions; and more accuracy in projects and subcontracts.

"Change management is key to successful projects and programs," states Joel Koppelman, senior vice president and general manager of Oracle's Primavera business unit in a press release. "Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Integration to Primavera Contract Management helps deliver a single version of truth to project-intensive organizations so that all stakeholders are aware of changes to project costs and purchase orders. This enables them to plan, anticipate change both in the field and in the finance department, and eliminate risks that may cause a project to be delayed or come in over budget."
