HiT Bolsters Performance of DBMoto Replicator

HiT Software last week unveiled DBMoto 6.6, the latest release of its database migration and replication software for cross-platform data integration projects, including those involving DB2/400. With this release, HiT has improved on the product's scalability when replicating to and from Oracle databases. MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server users also get new features.

DBMoto is a Windows-based data replication tool that offers multiple replication modes---refresh, mirroring, and synchronization--to handle different replication tasks. The software does not require programming, and uses a wizard-based process to handle initial set up. Nearly 20 different database management systems are supported by DBMoto, including IBM's DB2/400, DB2 for LUW, Informix, Cloudscape, and SolidDB; Microsoft's SQL Server and Access; Sun Microsystems' (and soon to be Oracle's) MySQL; Oracle 11i; Sybase's ASE and SQL Anywhere; CA's Ingres; PostgreSQL Global Development Group's PostgreSQL; Gupta's SQLBase; and FirebirdSQL.

DBMoto 6.6 brings full support for SQL Server 2008 as either a source or target database in mirroring or synchronization modes. The software continues to support SQL Server 2005. The release also brings better support for large-scale Oracle database systems, improvements to data load processes, and more advanced controls over replication commitment.

MySQL users gain support for transaction logging within DBMoto. This will provide a performance boost, because DBMoto will be able to use its transaction logging to identify and replicate only changed data. Version 6.6 also brings a new bulk insert capability to MySQL that takes advantage of existing MySQL functions. It's expected to cut initial data load times by 20 percent, HiT says. DBMoto scripting environment, which is used to fine-tune the product after the initial wizard-based setup, also sports new features.

Giacomo Lorenzin, CEO of HiT Software, says the new release of DBMoto will help organizations with fewer resources cope with rising performance expectations, without sacrificing total cost of ownership (TCO). "Low TCO infrastructure technology like DBMoto maximizes performance on any given hardware system, and takes advantage of available features in whatever database system is already in place," Lorenzin says in a press release.
