The country's largest grower and seller of mushrooms, Watsonville, California-based Monterey Mushrooms, is getting a good return on its OS/400 business intelligence software from SPSS. In fact, its CEO was so enthralled with the ShowCase Suite that he gave all senior-level personnel access to it, to help them better understand their revenues and margins.
"Because of SPSS, we're able to see our data as we've never seen it before," says Monterey Mushrooms' senior programmer and analyst Andrew Burnham. "We're able to view it from different angles and perspectives. That allows us to better analyze our margin of profitability and highlight exceptions quickly, which, in turn, allows us to make better business decisions."
Monterey Mushrooms is using the ShowCase suite to build reports for various parts of the business, including sales reporting, payroll balancing, freight distribution, human resources, asset management, and general ledger reporting, among others. The software allows employees to spend less time waiting for reports and gathering information, and more time analyzing the business and making the necessary changes to meet their business goals, Burnham says.
