Bottomline Launches New 'Proof of Delivery' Product

Published: May 1, 2007

by Alex Woodie

J.D. Edwards EnterpriseOne shops may be interested in hearing about the latest product news out of Bottomline Technologies. At the recent Oracle Collaborate '07 user conference in Las Vegas, the New England company unveiled a new product called Proof of Delivery and announced a new release of its Create!archive software.

Bottomline Technologies, through its acquisition of Create!form International in 2003, has a solid business selling electronic document management solutions to J.D. Edwards shops. Before the acquisitions by PeopleSoft and Oracle, Create!form International had an exclusive deal to provide certified document management software to J.D. Edwards customers. There is no longer an exclusive deal, but Bottomline maintains a solid base of more than 1,000 J.D. Edwards World and EnterpriseOne customers, and counts a number of users of other ERP systems, too.

The new Proof of Delivery (POD) software is designed to help automate business processes in manufacturing and distribution environments that rely heavily on transactional documents, such as packing slips, delivery tickets, and bills of lading. Specifically it's aimed at automating the process of verifying that goods have been delivered or received.

By capturing and storing electronic signatures and barcoded documents at the point of receipt (using barcode scanners or the Topaz signature pad), the POD initiates the creation of an invoice and eliminates manual processes associated with matching and collating various paper documents. The software allows authorized users, such as warehouse and accounting personnel, to instantly view and retrieve related documents.

The software runs on top of an existing document management system, such as Create!form or FormScape Enterprise (which Bottomline acquired in 2006), and uses Oracle Fusion middleware. The POD is designed to work with J.D. Edwards EnterpriseOne, PeopleSoft Enterprise, and Oracle E-Business Suite.

Bottomline also unveiled Create!archive 6.2, a new release of the company's Windows-based indexing and archiving system, which stores documents in the PDF format. With version 6.2, the company has implemented a new customizable dashboard interface that workers can use to search the archives with keywords and phrases. This release also brings better security through the capability to define access and user interaction at the individual or group level. Lastly, users can now embed annotations within documents to enhance audit-related tracking capabilities.
