COMMON Announces Speaker Awards for 2008 Conference

Thirty-five System i experts, including IT Jungle's own Ted Holt, were given awards by COMMON last week at its annual meeting and expo in Reno, Nevada. The awards were for sessions presented at the 2008 conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

COMMON divides its Speaker Hall of Fame (formerly called the Speaker Excellence Awards) into eight categories. The best of the best receive Gold Medal awards, while Silver and Bronze Medals round out the general purpose awards. COMMON also gives awards fore Best New Speaker, Best New Session, Best Traditional Lab, Best Open Lab, and Best IT Executive Session.

Winners of Gold Medal awards for the Nashville show were Dr. Jim Chambers, Dr. Frank Soltis, Randall Munson, Bruce Vining, and Paul Tuohy.

Silver Medal recipients include Richard Dolewski, Susan Gantner, Scott Goodson, Kim Greene, Laura Knapp, Skip Marchesani, Pete Massiello, Dave Owen, Trevor Perry, Debbie Saugen, and Larry Youngren.

Bronze Medal award winners include the late Al Barsa, Aaron Bartell, Larry Bolhuis, Steph DeWaegeneer, Marc Doyon, Charles Guarino, Ted Holt, Scott Klement, Tom McKinley, Mark Olson, Jon Paris, Robert Tipton, and Carol Woodbury.

The award for Best New Speaker went to Pete Massiello for his session on "What You Need to Know to do Successful IBM i Upgrades." Dr. Frank received the Best New Session award for his session "The New Power Equation: What it Means for System i."

Dan Hiebert took home the award for Best Traditional Lab with his "Practical Web Services for RPG" lab, while the married duo of Jon Paris and Susan Gantner share custody of the Best Open Lab award for their "Binder Language - ILE" lab. IBM's Ian Jarman took home the award for the Best IT Executive Session with his session "System i Directions."
