AttachmateWRQ Partners for Security, Desktop Integration

AttachmateWRQ has been busy lately. A week after announcing plans to buy NetIQ, the Seattle software company unveiled a pair of alliances, one with desktop integration tool vendor OpenSpan and the other with Aventail, a provider of network security appliances.
The partnership between AttachmateWRQ's and OpenSpan will allow customers to integrate Windows, Java, green-screen, and packaged applications at the desktop level, the companies say. By connecting AttachmateWRQ's Verastream legacy integration software with OpenSpan's flagship product, Composite Studio, non-technical users will be able to integrate applications and create new composite applications from the desktop, without requiring programming, according to the companies. A timetable for integrating the products was not provided.
Meanwhile, the partnership with Aventail, announced yesterday, has already yielded a version of AttachmateWRQ's terminal emulation software, called Reflection for the Web, that's fully integrated with Aventail's SSL VPN solution, thereby providing OS/400, mainframe, Unix, and Windows users with secure remote access to host applications. The new solution, called Aventail Host Access Modules, is available immediately as an add-on feature with any of Aventail's family of SSL VPN appliances. Pricing for the add-on starts at $1,995.
