Oracle last week said it has made several enhancements to its software for managing radio frequency identification (RFID) devices. Sensor Edge Server version 10.1.3, which is available for Linux and Windows operating systems and which originally shipped earlier this year, will help customers roll out RFID technology more cost effectively, the company says.
The new release of Sensor Edge Server features more built-in drivers for RFID devices, and now provides out-of-the-box support for Alien, Intermec, SAMsys, and Tyco RFID readers, and for RFID printers from Intermec, Printronix, SATO, and Zebra Technologies, the company says. Oracle points to other new features in this release, including a "task-oriented" user interface, an enhanced "RFID compliance workspace," and a slew of pre-canned reports that show what's happening across a user's RFID and sensor network.
Sensor Edge Server 10.1.3 is a component of Oracle's suite of middleware, called Fusion Middleware, and requires the latest release of its Java-based application server, called Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3. Edge Server works with a number of other middleware components from Oracle, including its Enterprise Service Bus, BPEL Process Manager, RFID Event Monitoring, and Business Activity Monitoring.
