Quadrant Software last week unveiled FastFax version 4.7, a new release of its line of fax software for sending and receiving faxes using iSeries and Windows servers. With this release, the Florida company added several new features, including automatic filing and indexing of faxes, automatic inbound fax confirmation, better integration with third-party apps, faster disaster recovery, support for OS/400 V5R4, and support for the latest Lotus Domino and Novell GroupWise environments.
Organizations dealing with a large amount of fax traffic often outgrow their stand-alone fax machines, and seek a electronic fax solution that works with other forms of collaboration, such as Domino and other e-mail; which can be centrally administered and monitored, yet deployed to desktops via the network; and which can pull information from, and insert information into, enterprise applications, such as BCPS and J.D. Edwards. FastFax is one such product in this category.
With version 4.7, Quadrant has bolstered an already rich assortment of fax management capabilities. At the top of the list of new goodies is support for automatic filing and indexing of faxes. With this release, the product automatically keeps a TIFF or PDF archive of all inbound and outbound faxes and e-mail (FastFax is also an e-mail server) according to customer-defined indexing criteria.
Another new feature is automatic notification of inbound faxes. Upon receipt of a fax from a designated source, FastFax will automatically send a one-page confirmation containing an image of the received transmission to the sender.
New APIs have brought a range of features with this release, including new e-mail delivery options. Users can now send e-mails in batch, and combine multiple individual attachments into a single attachments, thus alleviating somewhat the "e-mail bombardment" issue. This release also brings better support for IntelliChief, Quadrant's new document management, imaging, and workflow product, as well as support for integrating with other OS/400 and Windows applications using XML, which allows users to view the transmission status of outgoing documents from the third-party apps.
Quadrant has also bolstered disaster recovery capabilities with this release by speeding the process of switching to a backup FastFax server. Lastly, this release allows users to manage inbound and outbound faxes from Lotus Domino 7.0 and Novell GroupWise 7.0 client interfaces.
FastFax/Enterprise 4.7 starts at $10,700. Quadrant has also updated its FastFax/Ultra and FastFax/LAN products. For more information, visit www.quadrantsoftware.com.
