Fidelity National Information Services, a developer of banking systems, and security software developer PKWARE last week unveiled an OEM arrangement that will give users of Fidelity's OS/400-based Horizon core banking system better security of its backups, without much additional hassle.
By embedding PKWARE's SecureZIP software directly into the Horizon application, banks and credit unions using Horizon can now automatically encrypt and digitally sign their end-of-day backups. That data security and integrity persists even when SecureZIP files are transferred to offsite iSeries servers or stored on CD or tape, because the technology ensures that only authorized persons with the appropriate decryption keys may access the files, the companies say.
Data security is a critical component of any solution FNIS offers, says Kaivan Rahbari, senior vice president for FIS' Integrated Financial Solutions division. "Many of the institutions we serve are community and mid-tier banks that look to us for a solution to provide strong protection for valuable account information. SecureZIP was the obvious choice. Due to the architecture of SecureZIP, we were able to imbed its modules with Horizon providing seamless integration with our normal daily file operations. This allows us to provide enhanced functionality to our client base with minimal changes to their operating practices."
SecureZIP is also available on zSeries, Unix, Windows, and Linux operating systems.
