ASCI Job Scheduler Gets Hooks for Nagios

Organizations that use the ActiveBatch job scheduler from Advanced Systems Concepts (ASCI) can now monitor and track their jobs via Nagios, an open source system and network monitoring tool, the company announced recently.

ActiveBatch helps organizations manage workloads across IBM i, Windows, Linux, Unix, mainframe, OpenVMS, and Mac OS servers. The software allows customers to create schedules based on time or triggers, or build them around different types of constraints. The software, which gained IBM i support in 2009, features a library of pre-built templates that reduce the need to develop custom scripts.

Earlier this month, the Morristown, New Jersey-based company announced the availability of its new ActiveBatch Management Pack for Nagios. This piece of software allows users to monitor ActiveBatch objects, such as jobs, plans, and queues, from the Nagios console. ASCI says the management pack also monitors the resource consumption of the ActiveBatch agents and simplifies the Nagios system setup.

The Nagios management pack follows the roll-out of similar management packs for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager and Hewlett-Packard OpenView.

In other news, ASCI announced in April that ActiveBatch has been certified to work with Informatica's PowerCenter family of extract, transform, and load (ETL) tools. The Informatica "Seal of Approval" was granted to ActiveBatch Extension for Informatica, which delivers predefined integration with PowerCenter. The Informatica extension can be purchased from the online Informatica Marketplace.

ASCI also announced it's working on new software to help customers manage their cloud computing environments. ActiveBatch will get new resource management and event automation capabilities that will allow customers to provision computing resources based on historical use and predictions of future use.
