Kronos Touts iSeries Central Customer

Published: June 8, 2010

by Alex Woodie

Republic Services, an $8.2 billion provider of waste management and garbage collection services, has expanded its use of iSeries Central, the suite of i/OS-based time and attendance and scheduling software from Kronos, the software vendor announced last month. Today, the company manages more than 33,000 employees at 700 locations using the Kronos software.

iSeries Central is a suite of i/OS-based software used by large companies to manage their employees. In addition to interfacing with traditional and biometric time clock devices, the software can be used to create employee schedules, and even includes an absence management component designed to minimize the impact that employee absenteeism has on productivity.

While Kronos' corporate office doesn't often talk about the iSeries Central suite, that doesn't eliminate the fact that the i/OS-based product is used by a good percentage of its customers--and some of its largest customers to boot.

Republic Service's decision to stick with iSeries Central is a case in point. For more than eight years, the Phoenix, Arizona-based waste management company used iSeries Central to manage 11,000 of its employees.

Following a merger with another Kronos customer, Allied Waste Services, the company decided to extend the i/OS-based Kronos software throughout its organization, and to upgrade to the latest release, which was unveiled over a year ago. As a result, the company tripled the number of employees managed using the Kronos software.

Bill Halnon, Republic Services' CIO, explains the decision. "For many years, we have leveraged the Kronos iSeries solution to meet our operational objectives, and we look forward to expanding our use of the market-leading solution," he states in a press release. "Kronos simplifies timekeeping processes within our organization and provides a centralized, auditable repository for labor information."
