nuBridges Nabs TradeTrans for Supply Chain Intelligence

Published: June 9, 2009

by Alex Woodie

B2B software developer nuBridges last week announced the acquisition of TradeTrans, which develops a business intelligence tool designed to provide greater visibility into supply chain activities, and to defend against chargebacks. nuBridges plans to sell access to TradeTrans' tool, called TradeSmart, as a subscription-based hosted offering.

TradeSmart monitors and analyzes a customer's supply chain transactions (EDI, AS2, FTP) as they occur. The offering is designed to give customers additional visibility into variables such as the volume, value, and frequency of purchase orders, invoices, advanced shipping notices (ASNs), and other transaction types. This information is delivered over the Web in dashboard-style reports and key performance indicators (KPIs).

One of the biggest uses of TradeSmart is defending against chargebacks and other penalties related to inaccuracies in supply chain fulfillment and delivery, according to nuBridges. With TradeSmart keeping an eye on electronic documents used for B2B transactions, a company has a better shot of winning a battle against Wal-Mart or of one of the other channel masters renowned for playing hardball with fulfillment activities.

nuBridges initially plans to offer TradeSmart to its existing Exchange Network customers, who rely on nuBridges for managed B2B services. The company currently supports 36,000 customers on its Exchange Network. The company also sells B2B software, called Exchange, that customers can run in-house. Exchange runs on i OS and other major platforms. It is unclear if nuBridges will offer TradeSmart to customers running nuBridges' EDI software in-house.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. TradeTrans' headquarters in Portland, Oregon, will become the West Coast office for nuBridges, which is based near Atlanta, Georgia.
