Bug Busters Updates Menu and Security System

Bug Busters Software Engineering is now shipping the version 3.2 release of its A la Carte Menu and Security System (ALC), a menu management system that allows administrators to customize the appearance of menus, as well as control access to i/OS objects.

ALC gives administrators a central place where they can manage the way that users access i/OS applications and which system objects they are allowed to use. With ALC, authorized users can create their own menus that give them quick and easy access to the applications and commands they need to get their jobs done. As a security tool, ALC lets administrators restrict access to i/OS objects by individuals or groups. And because the menus and options that ALC creates are true OS/400 objects, its security is backed by the operating system.

The biggest new feature with version 3.2 is a new Convert Menu (CVTMNUALC) command for converting a static IBM menu into a dynamic ALC menu. This new command will make it easier for users to take advantage of ALC-backed features, such as the capability to dynamically add, remove, or change menu options; the capability to hold or release certain options; the capability to set minimum authority levels of menu options; ALC's multi-page scroll functions; and others.

This release also brings a new confirmation function. Customers can configure the ALC menu system to require that users give positive confirmation before proceeding with a sensitive function.

Bug Busters has added new reporting functions with version 3.2, including the capability to include text on menu or menu options for report detail listings. Bug Busters says this function will make it easier for administrators to see which user did what, and who is authorized to perform certain functions.
