Datatex is rolling out a major new version of its Datatex TIS ERP product for companies in the textile and apparel business. The new version of Datatex TIS, which is called Network Oriented World, or NOW, was written in J2EE, and runs on all major operating systems, including OS/400, Unix, Windows, and Linux, the Alpharetta, Georgia, company says.
Datatex says NOW is the first "open" solution that provides an integrated suite of inventory, warehouse management, purchasing, sales, and production capabilities for companies in the textile and rolled-products industries. The company also says NOW has been designed to utilize "open" middleware products, such as IBM's DB2 database and its WebsSphere application server environment. Datatex joined IBM's PartnerWorld program last year.
Last week, Datatex announced it will install NOW at North Carolina State University's School of Textiles, where it will be available to undergraduate and graduate students in hands-on labs. The implementation involves an xSeries server running Windows, and an array of data collection and radio frequency identification (RFID) equipment to simulate live manufacturing and product distribution applications.
