Imprivata's SSO Appliance Fixes Collin County Password Problem

Published: July 18, 2006

by Alex Woodie

The Post-It note password problem is ancient history at Collin County now that the county government has implemented Imprivata's OneSign Enterprise Single Sign-On (ESSO) appliance to streamline access to OS/400 and Windows applications. The county, home to more than 700,000 citizens in north central Texas, had been looking for an SSO solution since 2005.

When users have too many passwords to remember, it's inevitable that they will write them down somewhere. In the case of the 1,000 government employees of Collin County who worked on computers daily, this meant that some of them wrote passwords providing them access to OS/400 and Citrix servers on tiny Post-It notes and leaving them attached to their monitors. While this approach solved the access issue, it created a far worse security problem, especially when the confidentiality of citizen's data is at risk.

Last year the county started the hunt for an SSO offering. That search led to Imprivata, which offers an appliance-based SSO solution that includes patent-pending technology that the company says can automatically "learn" a user's existing password. There was one other prospective provider, but Imprivata won.

Omar Hussain, Imprivata's chief executive officer, attributed his company's win to speed of deployment. "Collin County, like many of our other customers . . . amazed us by racking and readying OneSign ESSO even before our team went onsite for our three-day install," Hussain says. Other OS/400 shops that have implemented OneSign ESSO include Enterprise Bank & Trust of Missouri, according to Imprivata's Web site: www.imprivata.com.

iBOLT Data Mapper Service

iBOLT's Data Mapper Service lets you create an association between records and fields in different formats and from different sources using a Visual Mapping device. It supports multiple Sources and multiple Destinations.

You can use the Data Mapper to graphically represent the relationship between source data elements and destination data elements. This creates a way of manipulating the data without having to write any lines of code.

You define the source and destination formats in the Data Mapper Service's Source/Destination Management dialog box. The Data Mapper can carry out any of the following actions:
· Create or update files in XML, HTML, or Flat File formats.
· Create, Update, and Delete a set of database records.
· Call a flow and pass arguments.
· Any Source can be mapped to any destination.
