OS/400 security software developer The PowerTech Group will resell OS/400 encryption software created by Patrick Townsend & Associates, the companies announced last week.
PowerTech plans to integrate Pat Townsend's implementation of the 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm into its NetworkSecurity product, where it will be used to encrypt DB2 fields, reports, and backup tapes, among other items.
John Earl, chief technology officer for Kent, Washington-based PowerTech, explains his company's decision to partner with Pat Townsend, which is headquartered less than an hour down the I-5 corridor from PowerTech in the city of Olympia.
"We researched encryption solutions and found the offerings from Patrick Townsend to be the most complete and innovative in the market," Earl says. "The addition of the 256-bit AES encryption offering developed by Townsend, is a vital component that rounds out the PowerTech suite of security solutions."
Pat Townsend president Pat Townsend says the solution should prove useful in PowerTech's compliance engagements. "Organizations are rushing to meet the changing data security requirements mandated by PCI, Sarbanes Oxley, Gramm Leach Bliley, the California Privacy Notification Act, and other federal and state regulations. And PowerTech Encryption can help them do that with an easy to use solution," Townsend says.
