Help/Systems Delivers Encryption for Backups

Help/Systems last week delivered Robot/SAVE version 11, a new release of its backup and recovery software for OS/400 and i5/OS systems. With this release, the Eden Prairie, Minnesota, company has added new encryption capabilities that make a backup tape unreadable without the proper keys. iTera Unveils CDP Vaulting, Slashes HA Pricing

iTera threw its hat into the continuous data protection (CDP) ring last week when it announced Echo2 Vault Edition, a new backup product that records all data changes to disk and allows users to recover data practically right up to the point of failure. The software vendor also announced a 50 percent reduction in the price of its flagship product, Echo2 High Availability, when purchased in conjunction with IBM's new System i Capacity Backup (CBU) Editions, also announced last week. When a wireless communication provider came to Afni seeking help with its AS/400-based customer service system, the business process outsourcer found a real mess. Thanks to a slow machine, difficult-to-navigate screens, and poor data validation, the client's customers were subjected to lengthy delays when they called. Instead of putting the tired workhorse down, Afni extended the customer service system's life by implementing a service oriented architecture (SOA) on top of the AS/400 app using Verastream Host Integrator from Attachmate's software, which recently updated the product.
