TriAWorks Launches Single-Sign-On Services for iSeries Shops
TriAWorks announced this month that it is now providing services to iSeries shops seeking to implement a single-sign-on solution. TriAWorks, which was founded in Spring, Texas, earlier this year by several former NetIQ and PentaSafe developers, sells a utility that assists users in setting up single sign-on using IBM's Enterprise Identity Mapping framework (see "TriAWorks Aims to Simplify Single Sign-On with EIM Utility"). TriAWorks says it now provides phone, WebEx, and on-site services to help customers implement single-sign-on solutions.
SkyView's Risk Assessor for OS/400 Is 'ServerProven'
Now you can address your i5's security problems and save money on your next hardware purchase at the same time. SkyView Partners' Risk Assessor for OS/400 received ServerProven validation from IBM in July. Risk Assessor, launched last year, was designed by former iSeries security architect Carol Woodbury and helps companies find security vulnerabilities on their OS/400 servers (see "New SkyView Software Assesses OS/400 Security Risks"). "Risk Assessor for OS/400 and i5 is like having Carol Woodbury do a security assessment of their system. There is nothing auditors like better than an unbiased, expert diagnosis," says J.D. Seal, a vice president of sales at SkyView, based near Seattle. IBM's ServerProven certification, which applies only to the iSeries, is given to products that have proven to be easy to install and to work as the vendor promises. In some cases IBM may offer discounts on hardware for a system that runs ServerProven software.
Manhattan WMS Implemented On Time and On Budget
TDG, a European logistics and supply-chain services company, has gone live with Manhattan Associates' OS/400-based Warehouse Management System at a 180,000-square-foot distribution center it runs for the Early Learning Centre, a multi-channel retailer of toys for young tots with 215 stores in England. TDG chose Warehouse Management System in part because Early Learning Centre already runs JDA Software's MMS-i, an OS/400-based merchandise management system, and interfacing the two systems would be a relatively easy task compared with implementing a supply chain product that runs on, say, VMS. The implementation at the Swindon warehouse also includes wearable radio frequency scanners from Symbol Technologies, which, TDG says, will position its warehouse staff to better manage seasonal demand fluctuations, particularly those experienced order spikes typically seen during the fast-approaching Christmas holiday. The joint Manhattan Associates-TDG implementation was completed on time and on budget.
INPRO Launches FTP Software for OS/400
INPRO International recently launched an FTP utility for OS/400 that it claims can have users up and running with FTP in minutes. FTP/Client provides a set of commands, such as FTPOPEN, FTPGET, FTPPUT, FTPQUIT, FTPRCMD, FTPMKD, or FTPDEL, that allows users to send data to other computers, without programming in low-level functions. "INPRO International [created] FTP/Client Version 1.1.0 because there is no other good host-AS/400 way to create user controlled FTP applications," the company said. Users can obtain FTP/Client by purchasing INPRO's SocKeT/400 tool, which costs $1,675.
JBM Systems' OctoTools Suite Is 'ServerProven'
Document management tools provider JBM Systems this month announced that its OctoTools suite has received ServerProven certification from IBM. The certification tells potential buyers that OctoTools installs quickly and works as advertised. JBM is a small software developer in Peabody, Massachusetts, whose products are used by some very large companies, including a well-known electronics manufacturer that used OctoTools to cut its 60,000-to-100,000-page monthly report output from its iSeries by 30 to 40 percent. In some cases users can also receive discounts from IBM on hardware that runs software that has been certified ServerProven. OctoTools, which costs from about $3,000 to $4,500, runs on Windows servers and accepts output from a variety of hosts, including OS/400, Unix, and Windows servers and mainframes.
