Oracle Adds DB2/400 Support to GoldenGate Data Integration Tool

Published: September 14, 2010

by Alex Woodie

Oracle last week announced a new release of GoldenGate, a real-time data integration tool it obtained in its acquisition of GoldenGate Software a year ago. Among the new features in GoldenGate 11g are support for IBM's DB2/400, which is officially called DB2 for IBM i.

GoldenGate is a high speed data integration and replication tool that's based on changed data capture (CDC) technology. The software is designed to enable real-time access to a customer's most current data, no matter the database or platform, for the purposes of feeding data warehouses from production databases, operational reporting, or maintaining production systems in parallel during upgrades or migrations.

The software, which is now part of Oracle's Fusion middleware suite, gains support for DB2 for i (which Oracle calls DB2 for iSeries, and which the rest of the world calls DB2/400) with the 11g release. However, the product only supports the delivery of information to DB2/400; GoldenGate still cannot capture data from DB2/400, which is curious.

GoldenGate 11g has been certified on Oracle's major ERP products, including JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, and E-Business Suite. It also gains support for capturing data from JMS-based messaging systems, and delivering data to TimesTen, an Oracle database. It's also certified on Oracle's Exadata Database Machine.

Oracle also announced Data Integrator Enterprise Edition 11g, the latest release of its ETL tool. In addition to gaining greater integration with GoldenGate, the software gets better compatibility with Oracle's JDeveloper and Oracle Enterprise Manager.
