Is Antivirus Ready for Open Source?

The open source software movement has come a long way. A decade ago, nobody but the actual participants in open source projects and other IT enthusiasts gave the movement much chance of succeeding, but today, it's tough to deny the success of open source products. However, when it comes to security tools and antivirus software--the thin blue line separating our computers from certain infection on the Internet--there is less agreement that open source can secure as well as traditionally developed, closed-source products. CYBRA Unveils New Release of Auto-Label Software

COMMON attendees visiting the CYBRA booth in the Expo are treated to "The RFID Express," a giant LEGO train display with 40 feet of track, simulating items moving between New York, Chicago, St. Louis, and San Francisco. LCD monitors in the booth show a dashboard as RFID tags are read in real time, and the DB2/400 database is updated, as the rail cars travel from factory to warehouse to distribution center to retailer. Continuing with the theme, conference attendees are invited aboard the RFID train where they can win a collectible Lionel Polar Express electric train and other prizes. CCSS Overhauls iSeries System Monitoring Tool

CCSS, a developer of OS/400 systems management utilities, introduced a new version of its flagship QSystem Monitor product yesterday at the Fall 2006 COMMON conference in Miami. Version 12 brings an array of new features, including network monitoring capabilities and more flexibility in how administrators view metrics. In fact, CCSS says it has made such extensive changes to the product that it barely resembles previous releases. READ MORE >
