Help/Systems Supports HP-UX with i OS Job Scheduler

Help/Systems last week announced that Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise, its i OS-based job scheduling software, can now manage the workloads of servers running the HP-UX flavor of Unix from Hewlett-Packard. The announcement gives Help/Systems complete coverage of Unix, Linux, and Windows computing platforms with its enterprise job scheduler.

Help/Systems announced Robot/SCHEDULE Enterprise earlier this year to extend the coverage of its i OS-based job scheduling software to its customers' other servers. The software, which is sold as an option to its core Robot/SCHEDULE product, includes Java-based agents that deploy to the target platforms and enable two-way communication with the job scheduler running on the Power Systems (System i) server.

With last week's update, the company delivered the capability to create job schedules and manage the work occurring across Hewlett-Packard's HP-UX, Sun Microsystems' Solaris, IBM's AIX, Red Hat's Linux, Novell's SuSE Linux, and Microsoft's Windows servers. All activities are controlled through Robot/SCHEDULE's Windows-based interface, called the Robot/SCHEDULE Explorer, which includes the job completion history, the schedule activity monitor, and the job schedule list, among other interfaces.

HP-UX servers can also be included in "reactive" jobs managed from the System i (Power Systems) server. Depending on how a user sets up the job schedule, the addition of a file or directory on an HP-UX server--or even the simple growth of a particular file or the fact that another job has ended--can kick off a series of events, including starting another job on the System i (AS/400) or Windows server.
