Bytware Boosts SMS Support for Mobile Message Management

Published: September 26, 2006

by Alex Woodie

At the COMMON conference in Miami Beach last week, Bytware announced an update to its MessengerPlus and MessengerConsole products that will make it easier for iSeries administrators to receive notification of important messages via their cell phones.

Bytware's Messenger products previously supported the Short Messaging Service (SMS) text-messaging capability offered on devices that use the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) protocol. That feature was added in the fall of 2003. However, this capability was not fully utilized, and changes to the products were necessary to open them to the full SMS-GSM experience, without the need for modems, paging providers, or phone lines.

Mike Grant, Bytware CEO, says the update reflects changes in how his customers are communicating. "Today everybody carries cell phones or Blackberries, not pagers," he says. "With this enhancement, MessengerPlus and MessengerConsole can be used as a real company-wide text messaging system. We've cut the strings for System i."

iBOLT Data Mapper Service

iBOLT's Data Mapper Service lets you create an association between records and fields in different formats and from different sources using a Visual Mapping device. It supports multiple Sources and multiple Destinations.

You can use the Data Mapper to graphically represent the relationship between source data elements and destination data elements. This creates a way of manipulating the data without having to write any lines of code.

You define the source and destination formats in the Data Mapper Service's Source/Destination Management dialog box. The Data Mapper can carry out any of the following actions:
· Create or update files in XML, HTML, or Flat File formats.
· Create, Update, and Delete a set of database records.
· Call a flow and pass arguments.
· Any Source can be mapped to any destination.
