Friedman Expands Offerings for Windows Manufacturers Beyond i OS

Companies in the windows and door manufacturing industry who are looking for an ERP system on which to run their businesses now have a choice of platforms when they work with software developer Friedman. As a result of its recent acquisition of Windflite Computer Systems, Friedman now has a Windows-based ERP product to sell alongside its original i OS-based ERP software for mid size manufacturers of doors and windows.

As is the case with many industries, the window and door manufacturing business has unique computing requirements that require specialized software. Because windows and doors come in so many different sizes, manufacturers need a make-to-order ERP system, which is built on the premise that each order will be a custom order. Friedman is one such company that has successfully targeted this market niche with its RPG application, Frontier.

Earlier this month, Friedman, which is based in Deerfield, Illinois, announced the acquisition of another Illinois company in the same market niche, Windflite Computer Systems. According to Friedman CFO Eric Herrmann, Windflite's product, called Winsys, will be positioned as a Windows-based alternative to the i OS-based Frontier product.

"This acquisition demonstrates our long-term commitment to serving the windows and door manufacturing software segment," Herrmann stated in a press release. "It will further strengthen our leading position in this vertical by providing platform alternatives and solutions that can be better suited for smaller to mid-sized manufacturers."

The Winsys product will be managed and supported by existing Windflite personnel out of its current location in Peoria, while some sales, marketing, and product development will be shifted to Deerfield.

Windflite founder Andy Hodge says the deal makes both companies stronger. "It will create immediate opportunities to enhance Winsys support and product development as well as drive growth of the Winsys customer community," Hodge says. "Our two organizations have already begun to implement an integration plan which includes continued uninterrupted support, enhancement of the product, and expanded sales and marketing."
