BlueWare Goes SaaS with i OS-Based Health Applications

BlueWare--one of thousands of small ISVs that previously made the AS/400 the strongest business computer platform in the world--recently unveiled plans to begin delivering access to its core Wellness Connection Electronic Health Record application using the software as a service (SaaS) method, thereby freeing its customers of hardware concerns.

BlueWare says the SaaS model means the customer will no longer be required to install and run the Wellness Connection software application from their own System i server, "which will eliminate the burden of maintenance, ongoing operation, and support for the customer," the company says.

Running the software for customers will also enable BlueWare to lower the initial cost to its customers, the company points out. Although the cost to the customer is usually higher in the long run using the SaaS model, many customers welcome that increased cost over time in exchange for eliminating the risk of investing in an expensive server architecture and the pricey personnel required to run it.

BlueWare CEO Rose Harr says the new SaaS business model is a logical extension of the company's previously announced service oriented architecture (SOA) strategy. "Building on our SOA focus, this new offering is a continuation of our strategy to meet the evolving needs of the marketplace," she says. "We, along with many other software providers, believe that who would be better to manage BlueWare software than BlueWare?"
