BOSaNOVA Goes Windows with Rabbit

BOSaNOVA last week launched a new Windows XP embedded (XPe)-based thin client, the RBT-816. The roll-out marks the first time that BOSaNOVA has brought Windows to its smallest and lightest thin client frame, which has garnered the nickname "Rabbit."
BOSaNOVA introduced its Rabbit line of thin clients earlier this year with the launch of the $395, Linux-based RBT-366. The AMD Geode-based machines weigh less than a pound and are designed to be mounted behind an LCD screen.
Martin Pladgeman, president of BOSaNOVA, says the Rabbit has crept into people's purchasing decisions. "Due to increased interest in the RBT product line we've expanded it to include this XPe option," he says. "We now have XPe available on all of our hardware platforms."
The RBT-816 is powered by an AMD LX 800 processor, comes with 256 MB of RAM, and 512 MB of DOM. Like BOSaNOVA's other XPe-based thin clients, the $495 device comes with antivirus software from CA. Unlike some other thin client offerings from BOSaNOVA, it doesn't include 5250 or 3270 emulators; you'll need to buy a CE.NET or Linux-based thin client to get that.
