UC4 Software Delivers Graphical View of Job Flows

Published: November 10, 2009

by Alex Woodie

Conceptualizing the flow of jobs in an enterprise environment is a difficult task. Tens of thousands of jobs might run across many platforms in a single day, with dependencies and file transfers linking them. To help IT managers get a better handle on their enterprise job flows, job scheduling vendor UC4 Software last week announced PrintView, a new reporting tool that generates graphical views of job flows.

PrintView, which was developed in concert with the German company APS|ENTERprise, outputs graphical files to a variety of formats, including .jpg, .png, .gif, .tif, and .bmp. Files can be imported into Visio, or printed on any Windows-compatible printer or plotter, the company says.

UC4 says customers will be better able to understand the workflows by seeing visual representations of them. This will lead them to find ways to make workflows more efficient and streamlined, according to Vincent Stueger, UC4 chief technology officer.

"With our customers deploying increasingly complicated process flows across physical, virtual, and cloud computing environments, we have seen a growth in demand for an easy-to-use product that can generate high-quality graphical documentation of their job plans," Stueger says.

PrintView is designed to work with the version 8 release of the UC4's Workload Automation Suite, which the company shipped in April. UC4's software installs on Unix, Linux, or Windows servers, and manages jobs across most major operating systems, including IBM i (OS/400), mainframe, BS2000, and OpenVMS, as well as Unix, Linux, and Windows.
