SunGard Highlights iSeries Hot Site Services

Disaster recovery hot site provider SunGard recently launched its new "AdvancedRecovery" series of services aimed at helping its customers recover their systems more quickly. While the $4 billion company previously offered a good deal of the services included in AdvancedRecovery, the company appears to be packaging its expertise in new ways, and highlighting its ongoing commitment to the iSeries.
Six AdvancedRecovery services were launched by the Wayne, Pennsylvania, company last week, including individual offerings for server replication (SQL Server only), multisystem storage replication, online backup vaulting, network recovery, standby operating system imaging, and, finally, for iSeries replication.
Under the iSeries replication offering, SunGard runs an iSeries server as a data replication repository, allowing the replication of data to a safe offsite location so customers do not need to invest in additional equipment. During an unplanned event, data is available to customer personnel working at a SunGard recovery center, the company says.
SunGard doesn't often state its iSeries ties, but rest assured that the hot site giant understands the platform well. An industry insider once said the iSeries is the second-most used platform at SunGard (with Windows undoubtedly holding the top spot at SunGard, although the insider didn't say it).
