Intermate A/S, a Danish software developer, last month announced a utility that converts OS/400 and i5/OS reports into Microsoft's Excel format. Called InterExcel400, the product should make it easier to share OS/400 reports with individuals both inside and outside of the user's organization.
InterExcel400 is a green-screen i5/OS utility that can assist with the distribution of spooled reports and the generation of charts and other graphics from i5/OS data. In addition to automatically converting spooled reports into PC formats, such as Excel, TXT, RTF, the utility features an import text wizard for applying formatting to Excel spreadsheets, which enables the tool to control fonts and border definitions, and to delete blank lines or multiple headers.
Users interact with InterExcel400 via a menu-based system and a "user friendly . . . WRKOUTQ kind of command," Intermate says. Users can also set up program calls to process bulk or automatic spool file conversions. Dynamic naming is supported in batch conversions, giving users greater freedom in the file naming process.
InterExcel400 also integrates with InterForm400 (called (ArtForm400 in the U.S.), Intermate's flagship forms design and electronic document distribution tool. When these two products are hooked up, it allows users to automatically e-mail spool files that have been converted to Excel or text formats using InterExcel400.
InterExcel400 is a Java program and requires OS/400 V5R1 or higher. For more information about InterExcel400 and trial downloads, see www.intermate.com.
