STORServer, a developer of disk-to-disk backup solutions for iSeries and other platforms, recently launched its new K6000 line of backup appliances, which feature new LTO tape libraries from Qualstar that support up to 100TB of storage, and the capability to simultaneously perform hundreds of backups, the company says.
STORServer's K6000 Backup Appliances are 8U, rack-mountable devices based on IBM x3800 or x3850 servers and up to 10 TB of direct storage via SAS or SATA disk drives. On the backend, the K6000s attach to Qualstar XLS libraries, which can house from 300 to nearly 6,100 LTO tape slots, providing hundreds of terabytes of storage.
But STORServer's users need that storage. "We see our customers' data growing at rapid rates, and their need for archiving that data is increasing right along with it," says Ellen Rome, vice president of sales and marketing for the Colorado Springs, Colorado, company. "Our new backup appliance will allow customers to receive the kind of quintessential backup security they need, whether it's every day or in case of a disaster."
The K6000 is designed to capture from 500 GB to 44 TB of data per day, and is big enough to keep at least 45 days of data backups and archives in its 10 TB disk cache. Pricing for the STORServer K6000 Backup Appliances begin at $220,000. For more information, visit www.storserver.com.
