ACOM Delivers a Web Log of E-Mail and Fax Activity

Published: December 8, 2009

by Alex Woodie

ACOM Solutions last week launched a new product called WebView that helps users manage the e-mail and fax functionality of other ACOM products, EZeMail/400 and EZFax/400. In effect, the browser-based WebView functions as a log of e-mail and fax distribution, and also allows users to resend documents using other means of distribution.

WebView was created because some ACOM users had difficulty telling whether important faxes or e-mails had been sent via EZFax/400 or EZeMail/400, two i OS-based extensions of ACOM's core EZPrint/400 (now EZeDocs/400) offering that the company launched eight years ago this month.

User problems began with having to log into a 5250 session and then navigate to the appropriate green screen to access ACOM's logs. For a savvy user, this wouldn't be that difficult. But for a novice user raised on GUIs and unfamiliar with the wily old green screen, this presented a formidable challenge.

Now that WebView is available, ACOM customers have an easy and intuitive way to access EZFax/400 and EZeMail/400 transaction logs. In addition to viewing old faxes and e-mails, users can re-route old e-mail documents via faxes, and vice versa. Users can also see pending fax and e-mail traffic on their System i servers.

In effect, WebView provides users with a snapshot of pending and processed activity, says James Scott, senior vice president of sales and marketing for ACOM. "From the respective logs, they can confirm that documents have actually been sent; redirect them in one format, such as e-mail, to the other; and reroute them along with attachments right from the dashboard," he says in a press release. "It's intuitive, effortless, and has flexibility that just isn't available on the green screen, such as point-and-click operation, the ability to view the sent documents, logs by various criteria, and more."

WebView runs in a browser and doesn't require any interaction with a green screen. All that's required is a URL and appropriate sign-on credentials. The product also supports the capability to add a hot-key button in a 5250 emulator, for those savvy and old-school green-screen users who want to launch a WebView session quickly and easily.

Pricing for the new product is set at $1,495. For more information, visit www.acom.com.
