How to replicate 35,000 transactions
per second!

Newell Rubbermaid implemented the *noMAX real-time replication solution from Maximum Availability over a weekend and were replicating 35,000 transactions per second between two LPAR's on an i890 by Monday morning! *noMAX is an extremely fast, scalable and affordable HA solution for a fraction of the cost of other legacy products.

IBM's eServer i5 Plans for 2005 and Beyond
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

For the past couple of years, the engineers and product managers at IBM's Rochester labs have sat down with me and talked about the big picture in the iSeries market in the coming years. While IBM can't give a lot of specifics on near-term announcements, the company is always willing to talk about, in a very general sense, what is coming down the pike in iSeries land. READ MORE >

The eServer i6 and i7 Wish List
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

There are very few things in life that you can get without asking for them, and the things you can get without asking are usually bad things, like getting laid off or contracting a disease. To say that asking for precisely what you want is important is a gross understatement; if you don't ask, how can you expect to get anything? ITERA

What would it cost your company if your
iSeries was down for 2½ days?

One large iSeries shop recently experienced a crippling system failure followed by a series of complications that kept the system down for 2½ days!

Fortunately they had just installed iTera's Echo2 High Availability.

The result: no data was lost, little downtime occurred and users barely had a clue.

Is the iSeries Next, After PCs?
by Timothy Prickett Morgan

Like many of you, it was with some shock that I learned that IBM would actually consider selling off its PC business. The PC business is coterminous with my adult life, and it just seemed impossible, even after all of the company's woes in this very tough business, that IBM would throw in the towel and no longer try to compete. As I ponder the future of the iSeries in this special edition of our Four Hundred newsletters, I can't help wondering if the iSeries is next. READ MORE >

Those Who Predict the Future Are Doomed to Repeat It
by Victor Rozek

Since life is an unpredictable blend of the serious and the silly, it is fitting that the future of IT be examined through both the sober and the satirical end of the predicting scope. And although skeptics claim that predictions are notoriously inaccurate, it must be pointed out that skeptics themselves have been known to err on occasion. No less a notable than Ken Olson, president of Digital Equipment Corp., creator of the VAX midrange computer, which the IBM midrange is a reaction against, once opined that "there is no need for any individual to have a computer in their home."
